Cloudiness in tea is caused by caffeine and tannins bonding with each other when tea is refrigerated or iced. The hotter the original brewing water the more caffeine and tannins are extracted from the tea leaves, and the murkier the beverage will be.

How do you keep iced tea from getting cloudy?

The trick? After boiling, let the tea cool at room temperature before adding cold water and ice. Adding this step prevents the tannins and caffeine from binding together which is the usual culprit behind cloudy iced tea. Make a batch of sweet iced tea and keep it on hand in a glass pitcher for when guests drop by.

Is it OK to drink cloudy iced tea?

Is cloudy tea safe to drink? Yes. If your cloudiness has been caused by hard water or heat shock, it may look unattractive but it will taste just the same and it will be perfectly safe.
