What is space saver reefer?

By Andrew Walker

The space-saver reefers are usually the roomiest and have ample space for the pallets. Other kinds of reefers have ducts running through them, reducing on height. However, reefers are usually heavier and therefore, their carrying capacity is usually lower.

How big is a reefer truck?

REEFER TRUCK AND TRAILER DIMENSIONS

Typically reefer trailers come in standard lengths between 28 and 53 feet, and do not exceed 13.5 feet in height. The load on a reefer truck should never exceed 44,000 pounds.

What is a 53 foot reefer?

The most common length for reefer trailers is the 53 feet trailer because it fits the most amount of freight. A 53 feet trailer fits 26 pallets of 42″x48″.

How many pallets can you fit in a 53 foot reefer?

A 53-foot trailer can fit up 26 pallets that measure 42” x 48”.

How many pallets can a reefer fit?

Dependent on the type of freight, shippers can typically fit between 24 and 30 pallets in a full 53′ van or reefer trailer. It is important to note that weight will dictate how much freight can be transported in the trailer, along with whether or not the pallets are stackable.

What is the difference between a reefer and a dry van?

Dry van: The most common type of trailer, it can haul a variety of products, both short and long distances. Reefer or refrigerated: This type of trailer is for hauling perishables that need to be at a certain protected temperature during transport.

Can I use a reefer as a dry van?

The answer to that question is, yes, of course. Dry freight shippers don’t often remember that they can actually make good use of reefer trailers to ship their goods. This is a huge mistake. If the freight is moving to active produce-shipping markets, shippers can save 6-17% on their freight shipments.

How much can a reefer hold?

A standard dry van typically can be loaded up to 44,000 to 45,000 pounds, where a temp controlled reefer can only be loaded between 42,500 and 44,000. The reason for the lower weight is because of the thicker walls lined with insulation and the refrigeration until used adds more weight to the trailer.

What makes more money flatbed or reefer?

Refrigerated truck drivers typically average more per mile than dry van and flatbed drivers. At Knight Transportation, reefer drivers average 2-3 cents more per mile. Combined with averaging 150-200 more miles per week, reefer drivers create the opportunity to increase pay in two ways, helping each trip earn more.
