What does SRS mean in a vehicle?

“SRS” stands for Supplemental Restraint System. It has to do with your safety restraints, which include your airbags and seatbelts. Keeping these in good repair can keep your safe in an accident. So if your SRS light comes on, come in to our European auto repair center right away to have it evaluated.

If the SRS light illuminates while you are driving, it signals there’s an issue with the car’s airbag system. It also means that the airbags may not deploy if you’re in an accident. If the light comes on, take your car to get the SRS sensor checked as soon as possible.

How is SRS light diagnosis?

When the vehicle is first started, the SRS light should illuminate for 1 to 5 seconds while the system goes through a self-test sequence. If the light goes out, then the system is ready. If the light stays on, there is a fault somewhere in the SRS system. The system is disabled at this point.

Often, all it takes to get rid of that pesky warning light is to reset your airbag sensor. Remove the terminal clamp and leave it disconnected for 5-10 seconds to allow the airbag sensor to reset. Then reconnect the battery terminal and turn the vehicle on. With a bit of luck, the light will stay off.

Will airbags deploy with SRS light on?

It might mean nothing much, or it could mean that in the event of an accident, your airbags will not deploy. Your airbag or SRS light might also come on if your vehicle was in an accident that activated the crash sensors in your car, but not to the point where the airbag deployed.
