Is Que tal a greeting?

English Meaning: “How’s it going?” “Va” is the verb which means “go,” and in this instance it is singular. The plural form of the phrase would be “Cómo les va?” Another form of this greeting is “¿Qué tal?”

Is Que tal a greeting or farewell?

“¿Qué tal?” is also a very general greeting. You can use this with anyone, regardless of age or how well you know them, as it works for formal and informal settings. It’s a prevalent way of greeting someone, widely used between locals in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries.

Is Que tal a formal greeting?

I thought Que tal?was an informal greeting. ¿Qué tal? is used in both, informal and formal situations, so you can greet an elderly person with ¿qué tal?

Short answer: no. It’s correct to use qué tal N (and one of a few verbs can possibly go in between) to ask about how something or someone is going (going well, going bad, etc.), but you don’t use it to remind someone about something, like you did with the waiter.
