How do you repair damaged wood trim?

For small dings, cracks and scratches, wood putty is best. If there are deep gouges, broken corners, or areas that need to be “rebuilt”, epoxy filler is best. First, begin by sanding off any raised edges and splinters with a piece of sand paper. This will make it so the application of filler goes on smoothly.

How do you fill gouges in trim?

Start at the edge of the damaged area, pressing the wood filler into the depression. Overfill slightly to allow for the fact that the filler shrinks as it dries. Once you have applied as much filler as necessary, smooth over the filled area with a clean part of a putty knife.

Can wood trim be repaired?

If you’re working with wood trim or crown molding, you can refinish it to repair scratches and shallow dents. Simply sand down your trim to remove the current stain and to smooth out the damaged areas. Sanding will also enable your fresh stain to soak into the wood.

How do you fill gaps in MDF trim?

You need oil-based paint to seal the holes before applying water-based paint.
Step 1: Spray or brush paint the MDF boards. Step 2: Cut the baseboard or trim piece to height & length. Step 3: Nail gun the baseboard or trim to the wall. Caulk the seams. Sand the nail holes. Vacuum dust out of nail holes.

How do you make wood trim look good?

To make wood trim look more current and fresh, I suggest staying FAR AWAY from any very warm tone on the wall. Nothing is going to make your dark wood trim look more orangey or “dated” than choosing a warm color tone on your walls (yellow, tan, orange, red etc..).
