How much does it cost to have a ring reshaped?

It starts at roughly $28 for a basic silver ring reshaping, and goes up for gold, platinum, and stainless steel. If soldering is required, expect a $20-40 increase, and at least an additional $120 for shank replacement as the jeweler will be supplying the metal needed to fix the ring.

Do rings change shape over time?

Usually, when you get a new ring, it is perfectly round, but if you take a look at it after some time, you might be surprised to see that its shape has changed a bit. While this doesn’t happen to all rings, many of them bend with time.

Can you get a ring melted down and remade?

Reusing precious metal isn’t quite as straightforward as reusing gemstones, but it is definitely possible. We can melt down old gold to form a new ring to your design, just get in touch to chat to one of our designers if this is something you would like to do.

Can you reshape a platinum ring?

Can a platinum ring break or bend? Like all rings, platinum rings can break or bend if you press on them hard enough (like if you run them over with your car). However, platinum is very malleable, and our jewelers can often reshape out-of-round, bent, or broken platinum rings.

How much does it cost to make a ring with your own diamonds?

Setting a custom ring costs anywhere from $500 to $1500. However, the cost varies depending on design complexities, type, size and number of the accent stones used, and absolutely anything a jeweler will factor into the budget.

Does 14K gold Bend?

Gold naturally scratches, and bends over time. However, compared to 18K gold, 14K wears more slowly and is more resistant to scratching, bending, and scuffing. That’s because it has a higher percentage of the other metals mixed in to make it harder and more durable.

What is a shank ring?

The ring shank, or what is commonly referred to as the band, is the portion of the ring that encircles the finger. The shank is an important design element affecting both the appearance of the ring and how it feels to the wearer.

Are rings tighter in summer?

For example, the heat of summer causes many of us to retain more water, which leads to swelling in our fingers. Just a small amount of swelling can make a big difference in how your rings feel. As a result, even perfectly-sized rings will often feel tight in the summer.

Does finger get bigger with age?

Over time your finger will adjust to the size of your ring, and you’ll often see an indentation at the wearing position if your ring is tight. After years, fingers and/or knuckles usually get bigger.

Do rings get smaller?

Resizing works for rings made of materials a jeweler can alter, such as gold, silver and platinum. The process will generally last up to two weeks, though it may take longer if the request is complicated or the ring is intricate. In addition, most rings can be only sized up or down two sizes.

Can you redesign a ring?

You can also redesign your wedding ring into a right-hand ring, especially if you want to create closure after the loss of your spouse. To redesign your wedding ring, you don’t need to wait for divorce or lose your spouse. You can actually redesign it to commemorate an important milestone in your relationship.

How long does it take to reset a ring?

The process of resetting a diamond engagement ring depends on the jeweler and could take anywhere from four to six weeks. The exact length of time is going to depend on how many stones are being reset, the design of the new setting and the design process.

Do you lose gold when melting?

Typical losses from refining gold are 1%-2.5% from melt or mass losses and another 1.5%-2.5% on assay or undercarat losses. Typical losses from refining silver are 2%-4.5% from melt or mass losses and another 2.5%-7.5% on assay or undercarat losses.
