Can you still eat food if plastic has melted?

For an oven with a self- or continuous-cleaning feature: Turn on the oven to its lowest setting and heat only until the plastic becomes pliable.

No matter how low you set your oven’s heat, there is no such thing as oven-safe plastic. Plastic should never be cooked in an oven. The plastic begins to soften and emit fumes at extremely low temperatures. They melt and produce fumes at somewhat higher temperatures.

How long does it take for burning plastic fumes to go away?

Air out the house immediately after the plastic is removed from the heat source by opening up all windows and leaving until the smoke and the majority of fumes have dissipated (at least an hour).
