Can you apply too many coats of Polycrylic?
When using polycrylic, you should always apply the recommended 3 layers. Only doing 1 or 2 will simply not be enough and too many coats has the potential to bulge the wood.

Can you buff Polycrylic?
Using a polishing compound on the last sanded coat will bring out the glassy finish, but I wouldn’t use a power buffer. It creates a lot of heat, and the buffing pad can load up with compound and burn the finish. I would do it by hand. Waterbased polyurethane finishes much better when sprayed.
Why is my Polycrylic bubbling?
The source of air bubbles in Polycrylic finish may be dust or some other foreign matter on the surface and/or overworking the application process. Any bubbles that exist a minute or two after application will need to be cleared away before the Polycrylic dries.
If you opened and stirred it and it looks OK- it probably is. They get weird when they go bad- usually not hard to tell.
Can I apply Polycrylic with a rag?
Cloth. Another fast way to apply polycrylic without creating bubbles is to use cloth to apply the finish. Pour some polycrylic on a piece of soft cloth and apply the finish. Once the first coat is applied, run the cloth down the face of the wood in one direction, just like you would with a synthetic brush.
