Are Kakariki parrots good talkers?

The Kakariki is a not a talker, but when kept alone they will bond with a human keeper and become quite loving. The Kakariki is the perfect bird for someone that wants a friendly, quiet bird or for the beginner as they work their way up to the larger parrot.

How smart are Kakariki?

As pets, kakarikis are great fun and have really entertaining personalities. Being intelligent, they are able to learn words and mimic a lot of sounds including your favorite songs. They are also just as lovable as they look and like to cuddle up to their owners.

What treats do Kakarikis like?

Kakarikis should be offered a good quality Parakeet mixture containing some sunflower and safflower, plus sprouted sunflower and mung beans, which can be sprouted together. Millet sprays are enjoyed. They will also eat fruit, such as apple, strawberries and grapes, also sweetcorn, carrot and celery.

What age can Kakarikis breed?

Most of these parakeets are extremely willing to breed and may be sexually mature when they are only five months old. However, it’s best to prevent breeding in their first year and also avoid breeding during the winter period. These peaceful birds can be kept and bred in an aviary with other birds, even other species.

What is the life span of a Kakariki?

They are small parrots with big personalities, intelligent and curious. Diet: seeds, fruit, flowers, leaves, shoots and invertebrates. Lifespan: 15-20 years.

Are Kakarikis Hardy?

The Kakariki doesn’t have a very long lifespan, 10 to 15 years, but they are nonetheless hardy and healthy birds. Keep in mind that these are parrots with a lot of energy and a great love of flying.

How do you tell if your bird is bonded to you?

If your bird tends to reflect your actions or feelings, it can be a sign that he is bonded to you. A bonded bird may snooze on your shoulder when you are relaxed. He may head to his food dish when he sees you eating, or he may dance and sing along with you while you are enjoying your favorite song.

Can Kakarikis eat meat?

They are omnivores which means they are both meat and plant eaters so be sure to provide mealworms and chicken even the bone they will break open for the marrow. “Kak’s”, as they are lovingly referred to, are not too fond of being handled.

Our Kakariki pairs are all bonded, Kakariki will pair for life with a partner and we tend to let our birds do this, others like swapping their birds round so they have different partners. You should ensure the pairs are in tip top condition not moulting and free from any illness.
